New York, NY--Nestled in Manhattan’s ultra-hip Meatpacking District, the plush Library room of the Soho House hotel set the scene for the NuVision Lucidium FX5 Series flatscreen preview on May 19. The new range of displays, which are being introduced throughout 2009, seemed right at home among the dark woods and velvet couches of the room. There’s no denying these screens are built for a luxurious environment.

The NuVision Lucidium FX5 65-inch display follows the release of the smaller models in the series later this year

The hallmark of the new displays is the Film Times Five (FX5) and Frame Forward Motion (FFM) technologies that create a true 120Hz picture. The FX5 technology eliminates the need for the 3:2 pull down algorithm found in 60Hz displays by recreating each frame five times, thus utilizing the 120Hz and high refresh rate of the panels. The FFM technology is instrumental in creating clear, flicker-free fast-motion sequences by comparing two consecutive frames and generating additional interpolated frames. The more frames, the more you see, which becomes incredibly beneficial when watching sports--you can really keep your eye on the ball--while action scenes become even more thrilling. In the event that latency issues arise, however, it’s easy for the user to shut both functions off completely.

These features will impress videophiles, but how else can dealers hope to benefit from this high-end line? Exclusivity, for one. NuVision hopes to position itself as something like the Bentley of displays, and with a stated and enforced zero internet sales policy, advertised MAP requirements, and selective distribution--protecting dealers from being undercut by Internet wholesalers--it could become just that.

Additionally, the displays are designed with the installer in mind. Features like extensive calibration controls, NuControl RS232 and IR input/pass through, and discrete control options are proven winners that mean quicker, simpler installation, higher consumer satisfaction, and faster customer turnover. And for the end-user’s peace of mind, the new Lucidium FX5 Series comes with a full, two-year manufacturer’s warranty on all parts and labor.

The 42-inch display is currently shipping, with the 47-, 52-, and 65-inch displays to be introduced throughout the year. Some things to look out for in the future include a variety of finish colors and textures and the re-positioning and re-imagining of the brand logo on the frame, all based on user feedback. With an eye toward high-end style as much as it is toward leading-edge technologies, the NuVision Lucidium FX5 displays will surely be surrounded by velvet for a long time to come.
