The Social Media Trend Is Not the 'New CB Radio'

For a while I was convinced that the social media trend was the modern equivalent of the CB Radio -- a fad that would briefly take the country by storm, only to die off later when the novelty had worn off. I’m finally willing to admit that there’s a lot more to it than that.

Here at Residential Systems, we have our website, this blog, digital editions, daily web stories, weekly e-newsletters, an RSS feed, and more -- not to mention our tried-and-true paper-and-ink magazine. When it comes to social media, sure, we do a little Facebook posting, but our two favorites are Twitter -- the famed 140-character-limit microblogging site (find us at @resisys) -- and Linked In, where you can search for Jeremy Glowacki, and I’ll add you to our Residential Systems group.

If you already read our magazine and the Resi website, you may wonder why you should also follow us on Twitter and join our Linked In group.

While we use Twitter to announce when our daily news headlines are live at the website, that’s just the beginning. We also point you to cool industry stuff around the web, give you up-to-the-second news reports from events like CEDIA Management Conference and manufacturer line shows, and tell you about stories that we're developing or industry gossip we’d like to "dish."

Especially via Linked In, we also seek potential interviewees for articles (if you want to get into the pages of Resi, then this is a great “in,” no pun intended), chat a bit about trends in the business, and even share the occasional joke.

So if you haven’t already done so, please join us via Twitter and Linked In. I think you’ll find that social media can have serve as an effective communication tool in your already busy lives. “Breaker breaker one-nine…”

The Social Media Trend Is Not the 'New CB Radio'

It seems that taking advantage of all that the social media movement has to offer really requires a full time effort. We have started to make the effort, but I don't expect to reap the benefits until we are consistent. Still the question exists-is it a trend or here for the long haul.
