Sound Developments Full Dolby Display at CEDIA EXPO

North American specialty distributor Sound Developments will house a full Dolby Atmos multi-dimensional audio playback system at its CEDIA EXPO booth (#860). The company claims this will be the most advanced audio system at the show.

Located near the center of the show floor and adjacent to Lutron and Savant, a CEDIA sound room will be equipped with components from Trinnov Audio, Procella Audio, DPI, Front Row seating, and Stewart Filmscreen. The Dolby Atmos demonstration will be a 9.1.4 speaker configuration, meaning that in addition to the standard 7.1 setup, the system will include four overhead speakers (no upward firing speakers) located in the ceiling above the listening position and two front wide speakers located on the left and right side walls.

Dolby Atmos is the first home theater system that is based on audio objects rather than audio channels. Each element of a Dolby Atmos soundtrack can become an audio object that can be placed anywhere in the listener’s audio environment. Breaking the creative boundaries of channel based audio mixing, Dolby Atmos provides artists with toolsets that allow them to accurately place sounds anywhere within a three-dimensional space. With Dolby Atmos, sound comes alive from all directions, including overhead, filling the home theater with astonishing clarity, power, detail, and depth.

“Our organization is very excited about hosting perhaps the first ultra-high-end Dolby Atmos demonstration at CEDIA EXPO,” said Barry Wosk, president of Sound Developments. “Thanks to Trinnov Audio and their state-of-the-art 32-channel Altitude32 processor, we will be able to demonstrate the full capabilities of Dolby Atmos multidimensional audio with speakers mounted in ceiling. This will be a unique opportunity for integrators interested in 3D audio to experience high-performance Dolby Atmos for the home theater. With the resolution and cinema impact of the Procella loudspeakers and the rest of the Sound Developments product mix, our goal is to give visitors a cinema experience second to none.”

Arnaud Laborie, Trinnov Audio’s CEO, shared, “Trinnov stands for 3D innovation. As early as 2001, we achieved the world’s first high-spatial-resolution 3D sound chain from 3D-recording to 3D-reproduction over twenty-four loudspeakers. Since then, Trinnov [has] continuously contributed to 3D audio at the highest scientific level,” says . “We worked with Dolby on our own implementation of Dolby Atmos and we are very excited to show the full capability of this ground-breaking format with the Altitude32.”

Video in the theater will be provided by Digital Projection and Stewart Filmscreen, both Sound Developments brands. Two DPI projectors, including their M-Vision Cine LED 1000 projector, will be demonstrated using an acoustically transparent Stewart screen.

In addition to this demo, Sound Developments will showcase its mix of specialty brands with both passive and active displays in a 30 x 50 foot space. All of the manufacturers distributed by Sound Developments USA will be represented, including Digital Projection, Front Row Seating, iDocx, Insteon, Procella Audio, and Cima by Stewart Filmscreen.
