Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen has introduced a free GAVA App to provide users with enhanced access to audio/video devices, window shades and lighting when using smart phones and tablets as the controller.

While GAVA does not require an app to operate, the GAVA App does maximize accessibility when using mobile devices.

GAVA is an automation and control system that uses a home or business Local Area Network (LAN) to control all audio/video devices, lighting and window shades in a home or commercial environment. It offers anywhere/anytime control of AV systems with an easy interface that requires little programming, according to the company. GAVA provides all software and hardware needed for configuration. It uses IP connectivity to access devices in the system including receivers, switchers, Blu-ray players, Apple TV, iTunes, set-top boxes and displays.

To install, users walk through a wizard-type setup, and GAVA is given a unique IP address that enables any authorized smart phone, tablet or device with wi-fi or Ethernet access to the system. Although designed to run on a network, GAVA does not require Internet access for configuration or use.

“The new GAVA App uses a caching system on your mobile device so it doesn’t need to re-load data, providing a faster and smoother loading time when you're using other apps or when you’re on the phone,” said Orrin Charm, GAVA product manager for Gefen. “The GAVA App also makes it easier to find GAVA and to manage multiple GAVA systems.

The GAVA App also offers a free “Demo Systems” mode. When in this mode, GAVA can be demonstrated without an actual system connected or network access.

The iOS App supports iOS versions 5.1 or higher and is available for free download on the Apple iTunes App Store.

The Android version requires Android versions 4.2 or higher, and is available for free download on the Google Play Store.

The free GAVA App is designed to work with GAVA. Users can also integrate Gefen’s Professional Automation Control System (PACS) and Mini PACS systems, which convert IP to IR or RS-232 to control devices without a network interface connection when using the GAVA App.
