Z-Wave Labs IoT Startup Accelerator Competition Calls for 2016 Applications

The Z-Wave Alliance, an open consortium of global companies deploying Z-Wave, has opened applications for the 2016 Z-Wave Labs competition.

The Z-Wave Alliance, an open consortium of global companies deploying Z-Wave, has opened applications for the 2016 Z-Wave Labs competition. Launched in 2015, the Z-Wave IoT accelerator-style program gives winners with an innovative idea in IoT product or service design access to the Z-Wave Alliance ecosystem, partners, and resources as well as the Z-Wave IoT ready 500 series development kits.

Interested startups or entrepreneurs can submit their product or service concept or plan aimed at IoT markets such as residential, commercial, automotive, healthcare, security, energy, and aging in place for a chance to win over the next year. The competition is open to any startup or entrepreneur who wants to use the Z-Wave wireless platform in their IoT offering. In addition to receiving a year-long full membership to the Z-Wave Alliance, with access to events, marketing materials, working groups, and trainings, selected startups will also receive a free Z-Wave IoT ready development kit to jumpstart their product roadmap and get their IoT product to market.

New this year, the Z-Wave Alliance plans to feature some Z-Wave Labs winning entries in their newly designed booth at the Sands Expo Hall at CES 2017. Labs participants may have the chance to have their product concept featured in the booth and will be asked to submit additional materials if selected for the CES feature.

Several 2015 Z-Wave Labs winners have benefitted from the resources of the accelerator program, including Boston-based startup BeON Home. An early-stage company with a successfully-funded Kickstarter campaign, BeON Home submitted to the competition to explore opportunities in the security dealer market. Winning the Z-Wave IoT competition generated media interviews, garnered high-level press coverage for the company and increased awareness among consumers. Within six months of winning the Z-Wave Labs competition, BeON Home had their first major consumer launch. Other Labs winners include energy management startup Embue, sliding door smart lock provider PadioLok and retrofit smart blinds solution iBlinds. For more Labs winner case studies, click here
