Last month Google introduced Google Assistant, a “conversational language” search engine designed to direct how its Google Home products control the connected home. Although initial support for the platform is limited to Nest, Samsung SmartThings, Philips Hue, and IFTT, Google is looking to catch up with the Amazon Echo in the mainstream voice control home automation market with more mainstream product partnerships as well as pro-level brand partnerships. This week, Josh.ai, became the first CEDIA-channel brand to work with Google Home.
An unboxed Google Home
Josh.ai, a control brand that was built specifically for the custom install industry, was already compatible with Amazon’s Echo (Alexa), using that well-designed device as a convenient interface into its more sophisticated artificial intelligence home control system. Now the company is showing how well its platform plays with Google Home.

The heart of Josh.ai is a proprietary natural language processing system enabling intuitive voice control products from Lutron, Sonos, Meridian, and others. Josh.ai also enables voice commands for Crestron, including lighting and shades.
The product is designed to be simple to install, requiring no custom programming and allowing the integrator to very quickly and reliably install and support large setups. Josh.ai also comes with troubleshooting tools, so integrators can remotely monitor and analyze their clients’ systems, including assessing network health and device status.
Behind the Amazon Echo and Google Home user interface, Josh.ai has a proprietary voice control system that handles complex commands, scenes, and automation setups, and also provides a high degree of personalization. Further, Josh.ai has native iOS, Android, and web apps.
Josh.ai’s artificial intelligence aims to incorporate the most advanced features available for high-end home control. For instance, the company said that clients can give “complex commands,” or multiple voice commands at once, creating a more natural and advanced voice experience.
