Pakedge Device & Software’s new technology partnership with Fortinet opens another cyber security technology to the custom residential market.

“We saw a real need for this type of collaboration,” Pakedge Device & Software president Victor Pak said. “As more and more AV products switch to IP-based networks, residential customers have been demanding commercial-quality networking gear and are often left with unsatisfactory options.”

According to Pak, his company’s collaboration enables homeowners to combine Fortinet’s enterprise-class network security solution combined with Pakedge’s IP-based networking devices.

Pak describes the decision to choose Fortinet by saying, “Creating an all-around robust network is key. In designing the new series of Pakedge routers, we needed an industry-leading security provider to team up with and Fortinet is the best you can get. We’re confident that the residential consumer will see some excellent results from this partnership.”

Fortinet’s FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate security applications such as antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, web content filtering, anti-spam, and traffic shaping, the company says. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet’s FortiGuard Network, which is designed to help ensure protection against content-based threats from e-mail and web traffic.

“We’re excited to partner with Pakedge in the custom residential market,” said Michael Valentine, Fortinet’s senior vice president of American sales and support at Fortinet. “We will leverage our expertise in network security while Pakedge will harness the technology for the dedicated field of high-end home networking and AV systems.”

The Fortinet FortiGate-50B appliance is one of the featured components of Pakedge’s newest products: the Pakedge RB-KIT, a preconfigured router and security appliance, and the Pakedge RSB-KIT, a preconfigured router, security appliance, and eight-port Gigabit switch. These two enterprise-class routers are designed for even the largest of homes, the company says, and are backed by hands-on support services from Pakedge.
