Pakedge Releases New Firmware Upgrade for C36, BakPak

Pakedge Device & Software has released new firmware upgrades for its C36 Wireless Access Point (WAP) Controller and BakPak Cloud Management System to counter risks from the Shellshock bug.

Pakedge Device & Software has released new firmware upgrades for its C36 Wireless Access Point (WAP) Controller and BakPak Cloud Management System to counter risks from the Shellshock bug.

“Shellshock is a recently discovered security vulnerability which some experts are already saying will be more serious than the very disruptive Heartbleed bug,” said Nick Phillips, vice president of sales at Pakedge. “Where a Pakedge C36 or BakPak is deployed, these firmware updates will eliminate the risk of a hacker using Shellshock to gain unauthorized access and take complete control of a remote system.”

Already, there are reports that the Shellshock vulnerability is being exploited. Experts predict that widespread automated attacks will be developed to locate and exploit Shellshock vulnerable systems on the internet in the near future. The new BakPak firmware, Version 2.13, will be automatically applied to all live BakPak systems. Integrators should verify this on behalf of their customers. The BakPak firmware update can also be downloaded manually through its user interface. The Shellshock fix is also applied on the C36 Version 2.1 (along with other firmware updates). This firmware can be downloaded through the Dealer Portal.

All NP36s and C36s shipping from Pakedge now feature the latest firmware and no user action is required. There is no charge for this firmware update, in keeping with Pakedge’s policy of free firmware updates for life. All other Pakedge products are fully-protected from the Shellshock bug and no action is required on the part of the integrators.

The NP36 is a Network Patroller which works in combination with Pakedge’s BakPak Cloud Management System for remote monitoring and management of networks on multiple projects using a single interface. With an NP36 installed at each active project, commercial or residential, installers have an effective tool for viewing network maps, checking device status, performing remote troubleshooting, and more.

The C36 is a reliable, all-in-one Wireless Access Point (WAP) controller networking solution which not only reduces the time and complexity of installation but also, once fitted, simplifies and speeds up network managing and maintenance for optimum AV performance. It enables installers to review and maintain performance for up to 30 WAPs on a network simultaneously.
