Vantage Provides Advanced Control for ONE UN

By RS Staff December 13,2012

Vantage has completed phase one of the renovations to ONE UN New York in New York City. The upgrade of the 439-room luxury hotel began in early 2012, with the goal of enhancing the in-room experience of guests, upgrading both the aesthetic design and technology of the hotel, and also significantly saving energy.

The hotel management selected Vantage to provide lighting and climate control, as well as a multi-language in-room guest room control interface for the high-end West Tower, and also presented several challenging technical requirements. To improve reliability in the densely populated hotel, management also wanted to avoid wireless controls. Also, although the renovation only began in early 2012, the complete upgrade of the West Tower was scheduled to be completed before the opening of the 67th General Assembly of the United Nations.

“With such technical and time constraints, and given the level of luxury and reliability our clients expect, we knew that finding the right provider for both lighting and comfort control was crucial,” said Irv Lipschutz, Sir. director of construction and project management. “What we were looking for almost seems like a contradiction in terms: an ultra-modern system based on leading-edge technology, from a proven company with decades of experience in the commercial market. Vantage provided all of that and more with their new InFusion control system.”

To meet the requirements of the project in the allotted time, Vantage's System Design Services team provided both design and programming support for the system, which includes fifty InFusion Controllers, 640 ScenePoint Dual Relays, 320 Keypad Stations, 150 TPT650 in-wall LCD touchscreen controllers, 160 thermostats, 800 sensors, as well as in-room keypads provided by Vantage’s parent company Legrand, finished in Titanium TrimLine II (pictured left) to enhance the décor of the rooms.

In spite of the tight schedule, all of the guests rooms were completed on schedule and reaction to the system has been overwhelmingly positive in terms of aesthetics, intuitiveness, and energy efficiency.

“Being selected as the technological centerpiece of this amazing new renovation is not only an incredible honor,” said Andrew Wale, vice president of marketing, “it also represents an incredible opportunity. Two opportunities, in fact; firstly, the opportunity to introduce ONE UN New York Hotel’s discriminating clientele to new levels of comfort, style, and ease of controls. Second, the upgrade has given us the perfect showcase to demonstrate just how well Vantage’s control solutions perform in even the most difficult and demanding retrofit installations.”

“We couldn’t be happier with the results,” added project director, Lionel Anidjar. “Not only is this a vastly better, more energy efficient lighting and climate control solution, it also gives us a gorgeous, forward-compatible system.”
