Dish is expanding the flexibility of its entertainment services for the home with 2014 International CES product introductions at that include the SuperJoey, which is capable of recording eight shows simultaneously; the Wireless Joey, with its wireless access point and wireless client; and the Virtual Joey, which is accessible via a PS3, PS4, or an LG smart TV.

“[Super Joey] has been endowed with such powers that virtually eliminates channel conflict in multiple TV households,” said Joe Clayton, president and CEO, during a Monday press conference in Las Vegas.

The company’s Dish Anywhere app now integrates the Hopper Transfers app and is available for Android devices, in addition to previously offered iOS capability. Hopper with Sling users can now view recorded content without an internet connection. This is a free update for Dish Anywhere users. The app will launch on Kindle Fire devices later this year.

The Dish user interface has been upgraded with recommendations from video-on-demand offerings or the program guide. Voice command functionality has been added to the Dish Explorer iPad app, a tool complete with clever commentary from Dish’s digital voice assistant, as demonstrated by Vivek Khemka, senior VP of product management.

“Hopper has evolved from a plain old STB to an incredible piece of advanced equipment becoming the hub of the home,” Clayton said, adding that home automation capabilities are on the radar a bit further down the road.

“The new supercharged hopper is just the beginning,” added Dave Shull, executive VP and chief commercial officer.
