The eighth annual event was held on May 19 and May 20 at Value Electronics’ retail location in Scarsdale, NY. Value Electronics contracted with a charter member of the Image Science Foundation (ISF) and other video engineers to evaluate the newest flagship flat panel HDTVs from the five leading manufacturers .

The televisions featured were 55-inch to 65-inch high-end LEDs and plasmas from Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Sony, and the new Elite. The evaluation used the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers’ (SMPTE) standards, the only accredited calibration standards set by the consumer electronics industry.

Dr. Larry Weber — inventor of the modern plasma display — attended the event and made a presentation, as well as answering audience questions. “This is the only proper way to evaluate these displays,” Dr. Weber said.

A press conference will be held at a later date presenting Panasonic with the “King of HDTV” award.
