Quadrant Solutions, a supplier of magnets and magnetic assemblies, has hired former Thiel owner Kathy Gornik and her colleague Dawn Cloud to serve in new business development roles. Gornik and Cloyd, who worked closely with Gornik for more than 12 years at Thiel, will identify opportunities for Quadrant with companies in the consumer electronics industry.

Gornik co-founded Thiel Audio, the loudspeaker manufacturer based in Lexington, KY, and had been responsible for its vision, direction, policies, and marketing strategy, before selling to a small private equity group in November 2012.

Quadrant Solutions is a U.S.-based company with more than 20 years in the magnet industry specializing in magnetic materials and finished assemblies worldwide. Quadrant’s certified magnet materials range from the simplest, low energy ferrites to complex, rare earth energy magnets, both used in loudspeaker designs. Quadrant has established strategic agreements with two licensed China Neodymiun manufacturers.

Gornik noted in a statement that she was introduced to Quadrant after her departure from Thiel, and believed that it was a company that she could feel confident presenting to her “trusted, long-standing industry associates.

“Quadrant has a lot to offer anyone in our industry who uses permanent magnets or magnetic assemblies of any kind,” Gornik explained. “This a great company with a terrific team of people supplying quality solutions as well as the ability to provide excellent R&D resources for new product development with their depth and breadth of knowledge about magnet technology. They shine in allowing companies to improve their product, reduce costs or overall size. I am thrilled to be able to continue to work in the industry I have come to love so much and to be able to represent such a fine company while doing so.”

Cloyd, who worked closely with Gornik for more than 12 years at Thiel in a variety of roles, will also be joining the Quadrant team in a new business development capacity, as well.

“I echo Kathy’s enthusiasm for Quadrant’s quality pedigree,” Cloyd said. “I see great potential to increase their already impressive list of customers in the CE industry. They have the capability to deliver high quality, high volume, and superior engineering services. I am excited to be aligned with people and products I truly believe in.”
