DTV Converter Box Coupon Deadline is March 31

Washington, DC–The deadline to become a Certified Retailer for DTV Converter Box Coupon Program is March 31, 2008. To apply for certification, retailers must register and create an account with the Department of Commerces National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).

Beginning February 17, 2009, U.S. televisions stations will stop broadcasting analog signals and will exclusively broadcasting digitally. The transition to digital – the most significant TV advancement since color – will transform the viewing experience.

The NTIA is administrating the Digital Television Converter Box Coupon Program. This group encourages the voluntary participation of consumer electronics retailers to ensure the success of the coupon program.

To apply for certification, visit www.ntiadtv.gov or call 866.296.1107 for additional information on the program requirements and to sign up as a participating retailer.

As of January 1, 2008, households can request coupons through the Digital Television Converter Box Coupon Program. Coupons are worth $40 each, to be used toward the purchase of up to two coupon-eligible converter boxes. Converter boxes will allow analog televisions to continue working with over-the-air broadcasts after February 17, 2009, when full power television stations convert to all-digital signals.

Households can request coupons until March 31, 2009 or while supplies last.
