New York, NY–Preliminary results of a study being conducted by Parks Associates in partnership with Residential Systems reveal that sales of media servers through integrators/installing dealers will leap from less than 40,000 units in 2004 to 65,000-70,000 units this year. Video servers, which account for about a quarter of unit sales, are expected to grow faster than audio-only systems due to increasing customer demand video capability.
“Last year about 60 percent of installing dealers were selling audio and/or video servers,” noted Bill Ablondi who is heading up the research effort. “This year more than three quarters of dealers are reporting that they sell media servers. We knew there was a lot of excitement about the category and our research confirms that dealers are experiencing strong demand for both audio-only and video servers. Our goal is not just to quantify demand, but to learn from dealers what they need in terms of product capabilities and features to drive this market forward.”
