Runco’s DHD Video Processor

Runco is introducing its Digital High-Definition (DHD 3) external video processor controller. The high-performance Runco DHD 3 combines advanced 1080p scaling and processing capabilities with improved compatibility and ease-of-installation demanded by Runco dealers.

The DHD 3 offers a full ISF calibration suite to achieve the perfect picture in any viewing environment and now makes calibration even more seamless by enabling individual display calibration through the controller and eliminating the need to access the on-screen display controls. Once proper calibration is achieved for one display, Runco’s new Backup, Recovery, and Clone (BRiC) tool allows the installer to apply the calibration settings, including preset commands, input timing, or connector, to other networked video displays. With simple copy-and-paste functionality, installers can easily save, recover, and clone the settings for the networked displays. The DHD 3 also offers an easy firmware upgrade, via USB or serial.

“Runco’s BRiC was created to offer a quick and easy solution that will significantly reduce set-up and downtime for our installers and their clients,” vice president of Technology for Runco, Ben Clifton, said. “The BRiC is a unique safeguard that only Runco can offer, and it protects installers from losing settings in the case of unforeseen events. An installer can connect a laptop via a USB cable directly to the DHD 3 and save all the settings to a single file. Loading the custom settings back on to the DHD 3 or on to another DHD 3 within the house is just as easy.”

The DHD 3 offers custom installers the most intuitive setup for today’s high-performance media rooms, providing ample connectivity and seamless compatibility between nearly every video source and component with a complete selection of input, output (HDMI v. 1.3 with HDCP and RJ-11), and communication control ports. In addition to a simple installation, with all components connected discreetly into its rack-mountable form factor, the DHD 3 saves system integrators valuable time when integrating and calibrating the system with many installer-friendly enhancements, including DHD 3 auto-detection for each video display connected to it via analog or HDMI inputs, as well the displays’ color space and color gamut controls simultaneously supporting up to eight displays.

Runco’s DHD 3 is the first and only processor to feature Runco’s advanced Vivix III 1080p processing with Vivix VirtualWide and new VirtualCinema aspect ratios. It supports all video aspect ratios and optimizes signal reproduction for Anamorphic, Letterbox, and 4:3 aspect ratios, with VirtualWide converting 4:3 images to 16:9 without any loss of image integrity. It achieves the best possible imagery from all video sources, supporting just about any consumer video source and content (480i/p, 576i/p, 720p and 1080p 24/25/30/50/60, 1080i 50/60/Aus, PC Modes) and enhances all digital and analog signals to near-high-definition quality. In addition, the DHD 3 matches output resolution, sync types, and output formats to prevent “double scaling” and achieve exceptional 1080p output.

It is also seamlessly compatible with a wide selection of Runco flat panel LCD and plasma displays. The DHD 3 also provides display control for most current Runco DHD 2-based products and is designed to support future Runco’s forth-coming products and features.
