There are people who legitimately can say, “I don’t really watch a lot of TV. In fact, I don’t even have cable or satellite.” That, however, is not the case, at all, for me. I was raised by a TV junkie and became one, myself, for a time.
I’ll admit that it’s difficult for me to get through an evening without turning on the TV at least once, but I’m definitely better than I used to be. Fortunately, now there are only a few shows that I must catch on my DVR, and most of those are of the political-news variety and not mind-numbing drama, comedy, or reality TV.
One of the few shows that is still in my rotation is Flight of the Conchords, HBO’s off-beat half-hour comedy about struggling New Zealand musicians in New York City. During this past Sunday’s episode, viewers learned that the show’s two main characters were a) illegal immigrants, and b) had been shepherds (not farmers!) back in their homeland. The two elements came together nicely at the end of the half-hour with both Bret and Jemaine (and their manager Murray) getting deported back to New Zealand… to their sheep.
Why am I blogging about this? Well, my mom (the TV addict) just sent me a link to “the cute baby animals website” showing what is apparently a viral video (fake; not fake; who cares?) that shows that not all hope is lost for a “sheepherder” with modern-day sensibilities.
