I was surprised (and pleased) to read a counter-argument to the long-held contention that home theaters do not increase the re-sale value of a home.

This admittedly anecdotal point was made in an article within today’s “Home” section of the New York Times by Karen Benvenuto, an associate real estate broker with Brown Harris Stevens in East Hampton, NY. Sure, Benvenuto was specifically speaking about the very niche market that is New York City and more specifically the ultra-wealthy Hamptons community, but I still think it’s worthy of notice that a home theater could improve a home’s resale value, despite earlier evidence to the contrary.
Veterans of the CI channel also may be pleased to read comments from home theater interior design legend Theo Kalomirakis, who recently sold his Brooklyn apartment at a higher price than other “comps” in his building due, he claims, to his dedicated home theater.
