Frame and Fortune

Samsung’s CEDIA Expo booth offers both industry favorites and new experiences for attendees.

Expectations are high for the Samsung booth at CEDIA Expo. The company’s Frame and Terrace displays have become dealer favorites, and the debut of a new 98-inch OLED television will keep traffic flowing throughout the event. Jim Mayo, executive director of custom install channel/strategy at Samsung Electronics America, is ready for it.

“CEDIA Expo has always been a big event for Samsung — especially the last five years,” he says. “Our booth takes a deep dive into what we offer in the CI space. This year, dealers can see our Terrace outdoor television, our Frame product, S95B 4K OLED TVs, and our new Freestyle portable projector. We are also showing a new, all-in-one product that is the evolution of the MicroLED, as well as the 98-inch QN100B 4K QLED TV. The QBN100B has an amazing 5000-nit brightness and an all-metal design.”

The flagship television also offers impressive black detail and a 120-watt Dolby Atmos sound system. It features a Slim Fit Wall Mount, a Connected Stand, and a special back mount holder for the One Connect Box.

Although nothing new is being announced here for the Frame, it will still be a must-see for attendees. “This is our fifth year with The Frame,” says Mayo. “We’re confident in all of our products, but it’s doing so much better than what we expected. It was designed to be a product that gets put in the den or the dining room so that you can put a TV in a nontraditional spot and have it look like a painting or photo that can turn it into a TV when needed. Now a lot of consumers are using it as their main TV over the fireplace. It looks great. For its last update, we put a new matte finish on the product that launched earlier this year.”

Audio products are also on display at the booth, including the company’s soundbars. “We launched a new slim soundbar, the S800, this year,” says Mayo. “We’re demonstrating it with the Frame. It’s our idea of how you can have a soundbar added to the Frame. It’s got a couple of different colored casings so that you can match the bezel of the Frame.

“Our audio business is ticking up as much as our TV business has this year. In fact, in the CI channel, we’re growing in both markets, but our audio growth is about twice that of our TV space right now.”

Attendees can also visit Samsung’s booth to learn more about the Platinum Program that the company has specifically created for CI dealers. “We built the Platinum Program a couple of years back, and it continues to grow,” says Mayo. “It improves profitability and access to product for dealers. They also get invited to special events. Plus, we donate money to charities where the Platinum Program dealers can contribute to match, which is a very cool thing and pretty unique in the business.

“This year, we’ve added another tool for them — a microsite builder that will add Samsung content right on their sites. It makes our content very accessible and allows them to communicate directly with their clients with an email that’s generated back to them. So, it’s a lead-generation system that also provides insights for the integrator, tracking and encouraging sales.”
