CEDIA Shares: SurgeX

SurgeX talks about the importance of power management in the AV industry and what they'll be showing at CEDIA Expo 2019.

In our series of #CEDIAShares blogs, we’re talking with exhibitors about the hottest technologies and trends they’re looking to see at CEDIA Expo 2019.

Q&A with Lauren Simmen, Director of Marketing, SurgeX

Q: Why CEDIA?

LAUREN SIMMEN: Every year, CEDIA Expo is the debut for what’s new in home technology from TVs, theater and audio experiences, security and smart home systems, networking, and more. CEDIA is an important show for the SurgeX team to connect with our dealers, and continue to educate attendees about the risk of power anomalies and the need for proper protection and a solid power foundation.

Our surge transient demo shows the damage of electrical noise and how traditional Metal Oxide Varistor (MOV) technology is insufficient to properly protect equipment from powerful surges. Our surge protection products have been a longstanding fixture at CEDIA, and over the years we’ve added to our repertoire for a complete foundation of power protection, including power analytics, and our large-format UPSs from Powervar. The SurgeX team brings our newest equipment to the show each year, and gives dealers a glimpse into the invisible problems that can plague their installations.

Q: What is the most exciting trend you expect to see at the show?

LS: Remote monitoring has been a growing trend over the years, and dealers are increasingly becoming more proactive in managing their customers’ systems. There are several ways to improve on proactivity for installations, many dealers have started at building stronger networks, then service programs and remote upgrades, as well as power protection. At CEDIA Expo this year, we’re expecting the trends towards proactivity and service to continue. As dealers offer the latest display, audio, networking, and other technologies to their customers after the show, protection for this equipment will become a growing trend.

Q: What will you focus on at CEDIA Expo 2019?

LS:  SurgeX is always focused on a stable power foundation, to provide integrators with solutions to protect equipment and installations.

SurgeX EnVision
The SurgeX enVision analyzes electrical conditions at an installation site to show dealers the power problems affecting systems.

Power anomalies are a daily occurrence that put systems at risk of early degradation, breakdown and downtime, and the need for constant reboots. To prevent system lockup and device problems, integrators can stop by the SurgeX booth #3643 to learn about the risks of electrical noise, spikes, sags, and surges to theater, security, networking, and other home installations, and how they can be analyzed and protected against.

Knowledge about power problems gives dealers an advantage in diagnosing and solving repeat system failures caused by these anomalies to reduce truck rolls and keep customers happy.
