Q: Why CEDIA?
BILL HENSLEY: CEDIA is the premiere opportunity for us to demonstrate our latest intelligent home innovations, as well as programs to help integrators do more and better business. It’s also the ideal chance for us to listen to integrators from around the globe and learn the specific the challenges and opportunities they are facing. Ultimately, we’re here to deliver solutions that solve dealers’ problems and elevate their businesses; we do as much listening as talking at the show.
Q: What is the most exciting trend you expect to see at the show?
BH: The growth in video analytics and voice control are two trends to watch—particularly how they integrate into the control environment. Home and business owners are increasingly comfortable speaking commands to their apps and systems, and the opportunity is there for integrators is to make this a comfortable and intuitive action. Video analytics can provide a wealth of data to the control system; again, the opportunity is there to integrate analytics into the control experience in a way that is easy and intuitive for the user. It’s not about the data, it’s about elevating the experience.
Q: What will you focus on at CEDIA Expo 2019?
BH: The main focus in the Nortek Security & Control booth will be
new ELAN control solutions, led by our Intelligent Touch Panels that use face recognition to personalize the control experience.
We’ll feature our new Video Doorbells that incorporate advanced motion detection to remove false positives, and, of course, we’ll have some brand new solutions I can’t even talk about yet. Our overarching theme will be how easy it is to work with ELAN and the Nortek family of brands to create intelligent solutions that delight residential and commercial customers.
