Spotlight on Motion Sensor Innovations at CEDIA Expo/CIX 2026

Integrators will discover how advancements in motion detection are improving security, automation, and energy management.

At CEDIA Expo/CIX 2026, residential and commercial systems integrators will discover how motion detection and occupancy sensing are driving new opportunities in security, automation, comfort, and safety. Taking place September 2–4 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, the show will feature various manufacturers demonstrating motion-sensing technologies that drive everything from smart home automation to security monitoring and building efficiency.

Applications Extend from Homes to Businesses

For integrators looking to expand beyond residential projects, motion-sensing technologies represent a natural bridge into commercial opportunities. Occupancy detection plays a key role in energy management systems, enabling lighting, HVAC, and other building functions to operate only when spaces are in use. At the same time, motion detection remains a core component of integrated security systems for offices, retail environments, and hospitality venues.

Motion Sensing Technologies Across the Show Floor

The latest generation of motion sensing moves well beyond traditional passive infrared. Dual-technology sensors (PIR + microwave), radar-based detection, presence sensing capable of identifying subtle human movement, and multimodal detection systems are dramatically reducing false triggers while improving responsiveness and coverage.

The show floor will feature a wide range of manufacturers demonstrating the latest in motion-sensing technology. Exhibitors, including Nice, Lutron, and Crestron, as well as a wide range of security and control system manufacturers, will be on hand with products spanning the full residential and commercial security ecosystem.

Seeing these technologies demonstrated live allows integrators to compare sensing technologies, explore integration possibilities, and understand how motion detection fits into larger automation ecosystems.

Education and Insights for Integrators

Beyond the show floor, motion sensing and automation design will also be explored through live programming at the event. The Smart Stage, located directly on the show floor, will host expert panels and discussions examining emerging technologies and practical strategies for adding new products and solutions to integration businesses. The comprehensive Smart Stage schedule can be found here.

These sessions — free for attendees — provide an opportunity to hear directly from manufacturers, technology leaders, and integrators who are already building security into their offerings.

In addition, CEDIA’s professional education program will deliver deeper technical training in system design, integration best practices, and business development strategies aligned with the rapidly evolving smart-home ecosystem.

On Tuesday, September 1, at 12:30 PM, attendees are encouraged to sign up for the Where Art Meets Automation: A Designer’s Guide to Intelligent Lighting Control session. This session will explore how lighting serves as the key element that unifies architecture, interior design, and technology. It is designed for integrators aiming to participate in the design process from the beginning or a designer looking to integrate lighting control more thoughtfully. Visit the CEDIA Expo/CIX website to find the entire CEDIA Education Conference schedule.

CEDIA Expo/CIX will return to Denver from Tuesday, September 1, to Friday, September 4, 2026.
