Sports and Tech Converge at CES 2016

CES 2016 will exhibit thousands of innovative consumer tech products. This year's event will feature some of the latest developments from the rapidly evolving world of eSports.

As part of an expanded sports and technology initiative at CES 2016, Turner Sports is producing a series of events on Thursday January 7 at Tech West Sands Expo. Presented by Turner Sports, these events include the first-ever Sports Business Forum, an eSports Showcase, and live broadcasts featuring TNT’s Sports Emmy Award Winning Inside the NBA. Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), CES 2016 is scheduled for January 6–9, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Sports and technology go hand in hand, from the interconnected sports world to enhanced consumer viewing experiences, competitive eSports is becoming an explosive category at CES,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CTA. “We are especially thrilled to welcome Turner Sports to CES 2016 along with its sports-fueled programming, competitions, and broadcasts, which will feature NBA legends live from the CES show floor.”

Conferences and special events presented by Turner Sports at CES 2016 include: 

• Sports Business Forum, presented by Turner Sports, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, January 7, Sands, Level 2, Hall D

The Sports Business Forum will highlight innovations relating to the in-person viewing experience and general consumption of sports content. Confirmed speakers include MLB commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr.; NBA commissioner Adam Silver; Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Randadive; Raine co-founder and partner Joseph Ravitch; Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban; TNT’s Ernie Johnson; and Shaquille O’Neal. 

• eSports Showcase, presented by Turner Sports, 12:30 p.m. Thursday, January 7, Sands, Level 2, Hall D

Turner Sports will present an eSports showcase with live coverage of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Championship. This live event marks the debut of the newly formed professional eSports league – “ELEAGUE” – created in partnership between Turner Sports and WME | IMG. Two of the best eSports teams in the world will square off, competing in a best-of-three championship. The winner will receive a prize pool and an invitation to participate in the new Turner Sports and WME | IMG competitive gaming league later this year. This viewing opportunity is free to attend for all registered CES attendees. 

• TNT’s Inside the NBA Live from CES, 4 p.m. Thursday January 7, Sands, Level 2, Hall D

TNT’s Sports Emmy Award winning Inside the NBA studio team of host Ernie Johnson and analysts Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal will be on-site at CES. The popular NBA studio show will be televised live from the show floor with pre-game coverage leading into TNT’s NBA doubleheader. The iconic team of Johnson, Barkley, Smith, and O’Neal will continue with halftime updates and full post-game coverage throughout the evening. This viewing opportunity is free for all registered CES attendees.

Additionally, CES 2016 will feature the Sports Tech Marketplace, presented by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA). Located in the Sands, Level 2, Halls A-C, the Sports Tech Marketplace will showcase the latest innovations from sport-specific smart products to state-of-the-art fandom connectivity.

SFIA will also present the 2016 Sports Tech Conference on Thursday, January 7 in the Venetian, Level 4, Marcello 4501. The Sports Tech Conference will highlight advancements in sports technology that enhance athletes’ performance and aid coaches by analyzing player data. Industry executives will discuss their company’s respective innovations and how they are changing the sports industry, both from a professional level and from the everyday athlete’s perspective. Confirmed speakers include Wayne Diesel, sports performance director of the Miami Dolphins; Anthony Koustelos, director at Sony Electronics, and Chris Spognardi, director of football operations at University of Tennessee Football.

CES 2016 will span 2.3 million square feet of exhibit space featuring more than 3,600 exhibiting companies debuting some of the latest products and services from the consumer tech industry. To learn more about CES, click here.
