Platinum Tools’ Success Leads to Bigger Home

Platinum Tools, a company that has earned respect in the custom installation business for its innovative solutions and tools for the preparation, installation, hand termination and testing of wire and cable, recently relocated its base of operation to a larger facility in Newbury Park.

Platinum Tools, a company that has earned respect in the custom installation business for its innovative solutions and tools for the preparation, installation, hand termination and testing of wire and cable, recently relocated its base of operation to a larger facility in Newbury Park. The new location is nearly twice the size of the company’s former home in Camarillo, CA, and now Platinum Tools has its own building, with the room to comfortably house its staff, plus a much larger warehouse for more efficient logistics to manage our current and projected new SKUs. To learn more about the company’s relocation and its recent success, RS contacted contacted Todd Cota; VP of sales, and asked him these questions.

You recently relocated to a new, larger facility. In addition to square footage, what are some of the perks of the new location?

One of the biggest problems with our old facility was the space. We were not in a position to add personnel to help support our growth. The new building allowed Platinum Tools to start with a blank slate and strategically set up production, warehouse, office, and administration to maximize our efficiency. This move will allow us to expand accordingly for the near future.

Having outgrown your old building, business must be pretty good for the company. In what markets is your company witnessing the most growth?

We have experienced growth in all markets served. The demands for low-voltage products are definitely on the rise. Customers are looking for more remote access or online capabilities no matter what products they are producing. The benefits for Platinum Tools is that we provide the infrastructure products that installers need and demand for their job sites.

In the last two or three years, what products have driven your company’s success the most?

Platinum Tools has grown organically across the various product lines we offer. One of the fastest growing categories is our testers, as it was a critical portion to fill out a full offering of cut, strip, terminate, and test products. This has allowed us to meet the growing needs for our end-users to stay brand loyal.

Cable Prowler and 10-gig Termination Kits What areas of growth are you focused on the most right now? Is IT influencing your designs or are AV-related products still the primary focus on the company?

AV is a big part of our focus as we are continuing to develop products for the future. Cat-6A (10 Gig) is rapidly gaining momentum with Platinum Tools customers. We recognized the market needs and became an early adapter for a field installable RJ45 connector. Our solution is scalable, affordable, and has gained popularity with all types of users.
