APX Alarm, one of the nation’s largest residential security companies, has introduced a new addition to its Go!Control security panel — a new home energy management package that APX executives say can save customers up to $24 per month in energy utility bills.
“This gives us a chance to offer great home security and an opportunity for our customers to save on their energy bills as well,” said Jim Nye, VP of business development for APX.
One of the main features of the home management system is customers can access their Go!Control security panel and regulate their home heating and cooling systems remotely via computer or with an iPhone. Home lighting and appliance systems with remote access capability can also be controlled by the new APX Go!Control energy panel.
The package is based on Z-Wave technology and includes a private-labeled APX thermostat and an additional gift of 12 CFL light bulbs. Customers pay $60 up front for the thermostat and $6.99 per month for the fully supported service.
The thermostat settings can be programmed and are fully customizable to a homeowner’s schedule. APX will provide three pre-programmed settings with ENERGY STAR guidelines that differ according to desired energy bill savings.
“It allows the customer to go in and choose from three setback point schedules for both cooling and heating with just a click,” Nye said.
APX salespeople will start selling this new energy-saving, home management package around the country today. Existing customers will also be offered the energy management system as an add-on service.
“We think a significant portion of our existing customers and future customers will be interested in this based on the substantial savings to home energy utility bills,” Nye said.
