APC’s Power-Saving Surge Protector

APC by Schneider Electric will be exhibiting is Power-Saving Surge Protector with LCD Timer at CEDIA EXPO.

The product is an on and off programmable surge protector that provides guaranteed protection from damaging power surges and spikes. By setting the APC Power-Saving Surge Protector with LCD Timer to power on or off at select times, consumers are able to save energy and money by avoiding wasted energy draw to idle electronics.

“Traditionally, surge protectors were designed for the sole purpose of protecting equipment from dangerous power transients,” said Dave Johnson, senior vice president, home and business networks, APC. “The new APC Power-Saving Surge Protector with LCD Timer provides guaranteed protection with the added benefit of energy and cost savings. By setting the timer to distribute energy only when needed, consumers can realize a significant savings of standby energy each year.”

APC’s Power-Saving Surge Protector with LCD Timer can be set to turn on or off at any preferred time on any selected day with as many as five scheduled settings. For example, according to the company users can program a charging station to power on upon arrival home from work to recharge an mp3 player and cell phone and then program to power off the next morning once the user departs for work. The LCD timer’s flexibility allows multiple users to set a variety of on and off times for all of their energy needs.

APC’s Power-Saving Surge Protector with LCD Timer is available in two models. The P4GC model offers four timer controlled outlets in a convenient wall-tap unit. The P6GC model has five timer controlled outlets and one always-on outlet in standard strip form with a three-foot cord. Both units offer two block spaced outlets for odd or large-shaped plugs, as well as status lights indicating “building wiring fault,” “timer enabled” and “protection working.”

Each APC Power-Saving Surge Protector with LCD Timer comes standard with APC’s lifetime Equipment Protection Policy, which covers properly connected equipment up to $50,000 (see policy for details). Assuming three hours of daily use and the national average of 11 cents a kilowatt/hour, APC estimates annual equipment standby power draw savings of $20 with model P4GC and $60 with model P6GC.

Available Q3 in the United States and Canada, the P4GC and P6GC carry estimated retail prices of $16.99 and $19.99, respectively.
