CEDIA Adds New Features for EXPO

During EXPO 2010 this fall, CEDIA plans to showcase emerging trends in home entertainment, sustainability, and digital home health in its first Future Technology Pavilion. CEDIA’s early-bird deadline to register for EXPO this year is July 30.

During EXPO 2010 this fall, CEDIA plans to showcase emerging trends in home entertainment, sustainability, and digital home health in its first Future Technology Pavilion. CEDIA’s early-bird deadline to register for EXPO this year is July 30.

CEDIA is hoping that members of the industry take advantage of its free tradeshow registration and $299 all-inclusive (except workshops and certification) education pass, by the July 30 deadline. CEDIA EXPO is scheduled for September 23-26, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Currently, 400-plus exhibitors (including more than 60 first-time participants) are committed to the show floor for 2010, according to CEDIA.

In addition to the Future Technology Pavilion, EXPO also will feature IP & Networking courses, EPA lead-based paint training, Attendees’ Choice Award Voting for a favorite technology on the show floor, a Learning Lab EST Skill Set Challenge, and the CEDIA EXPO Follow Me App.

CEDIA’s newly conceived Future Technology Pavilion will take attendees through a multi-room exhibit, with each segment designed to resemble a separate room in the home. The pavilion will feature a variety of product displays illustrating new and emerging ways in which technology may be integrated into the home of tomorrow. While some of the technologies on display may still be in development, the Future Technology Pavilion will demonstrate how R&D labs and universities are developing and integrating products to suit the needs of consumers moving forward.

“The Future Technology Pavilion will give CEDIA EXPO attendees a glimpse at the products and technologies that will be impacting the market in the months and years to come,” said CEDIA CEO Utz Baldwin. “This showcase will help attendees anticipate future opportunities for growth in this ever-changing industry.”
Each segment of the Future Technology Pavilion will feature technologies that represent a particular trend in the future of residential electronic systems:

• Future of Entertainment (home theater). This section will offer a worldwide exclusive look at the integration of 3D, 9.1 surround sound and motion seating in one setting. This room will include state-of-the-art acoustic and video calibration to show the first truly immersive experience in a residential environment.

• Sustainable Lifestyles/Energy Management (garage). This section will highlight how consumers can make their homes more environmentally friendly by monitoring and reducing energy usage. Technologies will include ZigBee-enabled circuit breakers, power monitoring technology, and electric vehicle charging stations.

• Digital Home Health (bedroom). As baby-boomers continue to move into their retirement years, the field of digital home health presents a growing opportunity for electronic systems contractors. Technologies displayed in this segment of the pavilion will integrate remote blood pressure monitoring, weight monitoring sensors, a pulse/oxygen meter, and more in a simple-to-use interface.

• Future of Communications (living room). This segment of the pavilion will display technologies focused on integrating communications platforms such as social media and telepresence within home technology systems.

The Future Technology Pavilion will be open during tradeshow hours, September 23-26. To complement the Future Technology Pavilion, CEDIA’s Technology Council will also present four panel sessions, including HDMI Hot Seat and Digital Home Health: What It Is and How It Affects Us All. The panels will be led by experts in both technology and business. To learn more about the Future Technology Pavilion and the Technology Council Panel Sessions, see page 6 of the CEDIA EXPO virtual registration brochure.
