CEDIA has announced that IP and Networking will be an educational focus for 2012.

With the network rapidly becoming the backbone of nearly everything in the home, CEDIA has expanded Networking and IP resources to meet the education needs of electronic systems contractors.

“Electronic systems contractors are well versed in the typical communication infrastructure of the home, it is a natural progression for them to design and maintain the network,” said Jeff Gardner, CEDIA director of technical training. “For ESCs to continue to ‘own the home’ our members must learn to ‘own the network’ and that starts with education.”

ESCs looking to start their IP and Networking education now have two upcoming education opportunities available. The first is a free webinar — “Protecting Customer Information by Securing the Network” — on Thursday, April 19 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Eastern. Attendees will learn about major security risks currently threatening residential networks as well as key practices to implement when designing, installing, and configuring wired and wireless networks.

The second opportunity is a Networking and Service Contracts Package offered at Royal Systems in Melville, NY on Tuesday, May 8. In the networking part of this package participants learn advanced IP and Ethernet networking protocols and their configurations. Early bird pricing is available through Thursday, April 19.

CEDIA members also have access to additional resources on IP and Networking, including a white paper on Network Security, and a business case study on wireless infrastructure strategy. Both documents are available in the CEDIA Marketplace.

In addition, CEDIA EXPO 2012 education will offer an expanded selection of Networking and IP courses. Three new advanced courses have been added, the lab space has tripled, and a new credential, the Residential Networking Specialist, will be available. Additional information on the new courses and credential is available at cedia.org/expo.
