Proficient Audio will be introducing a new line of three high-powered subwoofers at Core Brands Booth #350 at the upcoming CEDIA EXPO in Denver, CO, on Thursday, September 11. The new Proficient Protege line has meticulously tuned acoustics that produce up to 10 dB more output than the previous Proficient sub line. Yet the new subs are of similar size and form factor so they fit easily into all applications.

The line includes the FS8 8-inch sub at a MAP of $400, the FS10 10-inch sub at $500 MAP, and the FS12 12-inch sub at $600 MAP. All three models will begin shipping February 2015.
A key improvement with the new Protege subwoofers is the use of high-powered Class D amplifiers which deliver 200 to 300 watts RMS power, depending on the model, but run cool and do not require bulky external heat sinks. To handle the impressive output of these amplifiers, they utilize rugged woofers with pulp fiber and polypropylene composite cones. The woofers are stiff enough to reproduce the fastest bass transients accurately yet its natural damping properties control and reduce cone breakup modes and distortion.
A down-firing passive radiator has been added to extend the low-frequency response and increase deep bass output. The passive radiator is made of the same low-distortion composite material as the woofer cones.
