Control4 is doing is its part to make the iPad relevant to the CEDIA channel by introducing its Control4 My Home application for iPad. In a Control4-enabled smart home, users will be able to access lighting, temperature, music, video, security systems, and web cameras.

Control4 My Home is one of the first applications available for home control for the iPad. Control4 homeowners can immediately download Control4 My Home for iPad and authenticate to their Control4 system with a Mobile Navigator license obtained from a Control4 dealer.

Control4 My Home is one of the first applications available for home control for the iPad.

Control4’s iPad app is not simply the company’s iPhone app on steroids. Instead, it was designed from the ground up to take advantage of the completely new iPad form factor and size.

Control4’s COO Glen Mella says that he believes the popularity of the iPad combined with a growing consumer interest in energy management and home monitoring/security can be a great combination for Control4. “More and more of our dealers and their customer are asking about energy management solutions and security and remote monitoring,” he said. “So this iPad and our Control4 My Home app really play into those trends.”

With the Control4 My Home app for iPad, Mella says, homeowners can use their iPad as an interface to their Control4 system to create personalized experiences such as custom lighting scenes, to control entertainment systems, or to take advantage of energy savings with programmable thermostats and other ‘green’ settings.

When downloaded from the Apple Store, the free app runs in a demo mode to simulate a whole-home, connected system with AV, lighting scenes, thermostat control, and wireless door locks.

Later in the year, homeowners will be able to use Control4 My Home in conjunction with a Control4 4Sight remote monitoring subscription to turn lights on and off, lock or unlock doors, or access IP video cameras and security systems from the Internet.

“Consumers want the devices in their home to be integrated and easy to use. The Control4 Operating System is designed to do just that. Many of our customers use touchscreens to access their Control4 system and the iPad is a great platform that meets the needs of many homeowners for exactly this task,” Control4 CEO Will West said. “We think the iPad is an important platform for homeowners looking for a smarter home and believe that when combined with Control4 My Home we will continue to push forward the mainstream adoption of affordable home control technologies that make our lives easier.”
