D&H to Distribute Slacker Inc.

The portable radio player has been added to the distributors CE lineup.

Harrisburg, PA–In an ongoing effort to introduce retailers and dealers to new technologies, major North American distributor D&H has signed a distribution agreement with Slacker Inc., the developer of the Slacker Portable Radio Player.

Slacker has produced a personalized Internet Radio service with a library of more than two million songs, including more than 100 professionally programmed stations. The Slacker Portable enables users to store up to 40 customized stations (up to 4,000 songs), which are continuously refreshed to match the individual users tastes and selected radio stations. Instead of live streaming of songs, the Slacker Portable quickly fills itself up with personalized music each time the user connects to a PC or Wi-Fi hotspot.

Slacker recently finalized agreements with major music publishers including EMI Music Publishing, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Universal Music Publishing Group and Warner/Chappell Music. Unlike many digital media systems, music for the Slacker Personal Radio service is free. Consumers only need to purchase the Slacker Portable in order to access customizable Slacker radio stations, with options for premium services for as low as $7.50 per month on an annual basis.

D&H is always looking for innovative technologies that stretch existing product models into new areas, said Rob Eby, director of purchasing at D&H Distributing. Breakthrough categories like portable Internet radio help the market progress, so they deserve our attention. These products also give our dealers and retailers a more competitive offering. Slackers Personal Radio system has infused the radio format with the best elements of the digital media experience: customization, variety, autonomy and portability.

D&H serves a valuable community of dealers, retailers and etailers. As a distribution partner, it has a solid reputation for driving emerging trends to these markets, which benefits the entire channel, said Steve Cotter, vice president of sales and business development at Slacker, Inc. That level of focus and commitment will help Slacker gain headway in the market.
