Firefly Design Group has been selected by Architectural Electronics, Inc. of Winter Park, FL, as the exclusive design and engineering lead on The 2012 New American Home.

Firefly Design Group will assist Architectural Electronics, as well as the project’s architect and builder, throughout the construction phase of the project by consolidating the vast amount of design information into a project documentation package. Firefly Design Group’s documentation materials for The 2012 New American Home will include drawings and details on wiring plans, technical power plans, rack elevations, lighting control, schematics and CAD elevation details.

The New American Home, now in its 29th year, is constructed annually by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) to showcase the innovative construction technologies and latest building products. The New American Home serves as the NAHB’s official “show home” and provides building, integration and design professionals an opportunity to see first-hand the latest trends, techniques and products that can be used in homes. The debut of the home is held in conjunction with the NAHB International Builders’ Show which will take place in Orlando, February 8-11, 2012.

This year’s New America Home has already drawn the interest of several high profile media outlets, including HGTV Pro, which will produce and air an extensive video feature on the project. Additionally, CEDIA and Home Technology Alliance (HTA) are partnering to document the entire project through an extensive series of videos as part of a detailed case study. The case study will be made available to electronics systems contractors to help educate them on the latest trends, technologies, and business practices.

“We are thrilled to been have brought in by Architectural Electronics to assist with The New American Home,” said Ron Callis, president of Firefly Design Group. “Our Construction Phase Services, which include extensive documentation, will allow the team at Architectural Electronics, as well as the architects, builders and designers, to execute the completion of the project with greater efficiency. We are working extensively with all members of the project to collect information and organize it in a way that will allow this project to be completed accurately, on-time and on-budget.”

“Having the opportunity to bring Ron Callis and his team at Firefly Design Group into the New American Home is an extremely valuable asset to everyone involved the project,” said Peter Shipp, president of Architectural Electronics. “Firefly Design Group’s processes and services have proven to enhance the success—and profitability—of projects. On this project, we’ll be able to utilize Firefly’s services to easily organize and document all aspects of the integrated technologies, despite time constraints placed on us by the fast-track nature of this construction project.”

The 2012 New American Home is currently under construction near Orlando. The project’s architect and builder, Phil Kean of Winter Park, is incorporating numerous design elements of the “Classic White Box” of the 1960s and 1970s made popular by famous architects like Le Corbusier and Richard Meier. Architectural Electronic will utilize Firefly Design Group’s services to complement the home’s design with the latest residential technologies, including audio, video, lighting, and home control.
