Gefen Adds Fiber Optic Extension Solutions

Gefen has introduced two new extenders, delivering video using fiber optic cables.   The GefenPRO DVI FM-1500. Both the GefenPRO DVI FM-1500 and the DVI FM-2000 allow for the viewing of high resolution computer data on a DVI display when the computer is safely stored in a rack

Gefen has introduced two new extenders, delivering video using fiber optic cables.

The GefenPRO DVI FM-1500.

Both the GefenPRO DVI FM-1500 and the DVI FM-2000 allow for the viewing of high resolution computer data on a DVI display when the computer is safely stored in a rack or control room. Both products use modular sender and receiver units that install in seconds, and come with advanced technical support.

“Integrators who have to transfer signals between buildings and other large scale installations can now benefit from a reliable selection of extenders for DVI that don’t rely on a network system,” said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO, Gefen.

The solution extends high resolution DVI (1920×1200) up to 1 kilometer (3280 feet) in distance using single-mode fiber optic cabling terminated in SC connectors. Up to 500 meters (1640 feet) can be reached using multi-mode fiber. This streamlines the installation while eliminating EMI (electromagnetic interference), according to the company.

Two small transceivers are connected at the local and remote locations, linked by a single strand of fiber optic cable. Virtual EDID programming ensures a constant synching of the video source to the monitor used in the system.

Dual link DVI resolutions up to 3840×2400 are delivered from the high resolution graphics computer to the remote display using two multi-mode fiber optic cables terminated with SC connectors, reaching up to 300 meters (1000 feet) in distance. The use of two dual link fiber optic cables ensures the integrity of delivery without signal quality loss.
