Residential Systems magazine is dedicated to giving custom integrators and dealers as much insight and information as possible about the business we all love. As we emerge from a couple of difficult economic years that saw integrators having to make tough decisions about their business, RS wanted to end the year on a progressively positive note by giving those who often work with consumers, bridging the gap between products and creating a genuinely unique at-home entertainment experience, a greater voice: the residential electronics systems contractor.

In addition to giving peer-to-peer insight into how and where some of the most popular products currently in our channel are being used and improved, the ESCs showcased here also highlight how their dedication to custom integration goes beyond simply having a business. Phrases like “tech geek since childhood” and “a hobby became a career” underscore a life-long adoration and commitment to sharing technology and experiences that are quickly beginning to define our newish century.

Though we call it a review, none of the custom integrators featured are interested in going negative about any of the products they were asked to give their opinions about, nor were we at RS seeking that kind of feedback from the field. What is here is a gauge of how integrators are implementing products that many of them have been using for years and the features and functions they would some times like added to make their jobs that much easier. It is, in essence, a conversation between peers and their manufacturing partners about how to keep moving the bar higher — something that could only reap more benefits for us all as the custom integration business continues to shift with the times.
