Indianapolis, IN–H-P Products, Inc. has been named the first official CEDIA CEU Provider for central vac installation. This serves as a milestone for the central vacuum industry as H-P Products is the first manufacturer in this field to become certified with their “Proper Installation of Central Vacuum Systems” course.

Supplementary to the CEU course, H-P Products, premier manufacturer of Dirt Devil and VACUFLO central vacuum systems, provides their installers with all of the training and support needed to become a professional and qualified central vac installer. Now, as the first and only central vac manufacturer to be a part of CEU, H-P Products is able to increase awareness about the ease-of-installation and the benefits of being able to install a system to CEDIA installers.

To complete the course and gain the 0.50 CEU credits, installers must finish Installer Level 1 and 2, achieving 80 percent as a passing score on two exams. With a total of 10 hours of training spread over the two levels, Chris Slackford, H-P Products field trainer, walks installers through a detailed and user-friendly program–teaching students how to properly install a system while maximizing time and profit potential.

During the Installer Level 1 course (approximately 2 hours), Slackford leads installers through a classroom seminar, detailing central vacuum systems and installation practices. With hands-on exercises and demonstrations, the course explains how exactly a central vacuum system is installed in a home (new construction or retrofit) and why it is beneficial to the end-user. Following the seminar, the students are asked to complete a short exam; upon completion with a grade of 80 percent or higher, installers are given a certificate and granted access to Installer Level 2–the hands-on installation of a central vacuum system.

For Level 2, Slackford arranges to have the student work with him on an actual central vac installation in a home. Though a typical installation takes 4-6 hours, depending on the size of the home, Slackford’s comprehensive training takes the installers through about an 8 hour process, clarifying each step as they go. Following the installation, the student is asked to complete a final exam to test their knowledge and gain the credit needed to become CEDIA Certified for central vac installation.

Along with offering technical support, personal assistance and education programs, H-P Products also has detailed manuals available on their websites from which installers can gain additional information. From planning the layout of the system to tools-of-the-trade, the manuals are extensive with all necessary information and guidance for installers. By offering such a comprehensive program, H-P Products helps installers build customer satisfaction with both the product and their first rate service.
