HTSA, the high-end consumer electronics buying group formerly known as the Home Theater Specialists of America, is now HTSA, Home Technology Specialists of America.
The group’s board elected to change the name after 14 years, in reflection of the growing demand placed on its membership for integrating systems beyond home theater.
“The ‘home theater’ only delivers a small glimpse into what we really do,” HTSA executive director Richard Glikes said. “Technology is a much more apt moniker. Besides audio, video, screens, furniture, and chairs, we sell surveillance gear, lighting systems, control, shading, and networks. Technology and the ever-changing dalliances of our clients have us moving into fields that are a natural adjunct to our core strengths.”
In recent months, HTSA demonstrated focus on sustainable design, with its solar-powered Guiltless Green Home Theater and the training of dozens of members in the installation of solar panels.
The group brought on its first lighting vendor, Renaissance Lighting, which offers a more efficient solid state lighting product for green savvy clients. Members are gaining expertise in energy management and monitoring with new products that can be closely integrated with their expertise in control systems.
“HTSA prides itself on representing the leading-edge in the world of residential technology,” Glikes said. “When we were all about the cutting-edge trend of dedicated home theater, our name reflected as much. Today, emerging technologies are not just concerned with entertainment, but with giving consumers greater control of their lifestyles. As the Home Technology Specialists of America, we will offer clients just that.”
