Lutron has formed a new leadership structure as the company moves forward following the passing of its chairman and founder, Joel S. Spira.

The company’s ownership will remain in the Spira family, in keeping with founders Joel and Ruth Spira’s wishes that it remain a family-owned-and-operated business. Ruth Spira and her daughter, Susan Hakkarainen, will serve as co-chairmen and will lead the company along with president Mike Pessina and the rest of the management team.

Joel Spira died at the age of 88 last week at his home in Pennsylvania. He founded Lutron in 1961 and grew it into one of the largest manufacturers of lighting devices and controls in the world, with more than 2,000 patents and sales in more than 100 countries.
