Monster has manufactured the Miles Davis Tribute and upcoming Miles Davis Trumpet high performance in-ear headphones, the latter of which were previewed at the birthday fete. Any fan that purchased the Tribute headphones from J&R at the event received a copy of Davis’ Kind of Blue: 50th Anniversary Collector's Edition, as well as a pre-released copy of Sketches of Spain remixed for HD headphone surround.
Monster founder and avid Davis fan Noel Lee said the birthday celebration kicked off a yearlong Monster commemoration of the jazz icon’s life and achievements. He noted J&R Electronics’ longtime connection to the jazz community and said, “Our hope is that by publicly celebrating his life and music, we will be able to help keep the spirit of audacity, exploration, and virtuosity alive in new generations of listeners and musicians.”
Davis’ son, Erin Davis, daughter Cheryl Davis, and nephew, Vince Wilburn, Jr. were in attendance at J&R to meet with fans. Wilburn, Jr. said, “Miles Davis Properties, LLC wishes to whole-heartedly thank Noel Lee and the entire Monster family. The Miles–Monster partnership encompasses two extraordinary messengers of modern music. We can’t wait to share this with all of the Miles fans across the globe.”
The Miles Davis Trumpet in-ear headphones feature a jazz-inspired style, with aesthetic cues taken from Miles’ trumpet itself, including mouthpiece shaped earpieces and a gold/brass finish, along with a Miles Davis silhouette and etched signature on the cord. The headphones also come with a special magnifier that allows users to zoom in on the miniature laser-etched Miles Davis signature on the trumpet housing.
Designed to be as revolutionary as the iconic musician, according to the company, Miles Davis Trumpet headphones are precision-tuned to reproduce the subtle nuances and unique acoustic tones of jazz. They feature what Monster said are the world’s smallest drivers. The reference-quality audio is made possible by a new design that allows the earpiece to rest more comfortably and deeper within the ear canal.
