Onkyo is offering free repairs to owners of select AV receivers and home-theater receiver/speaker packages that suffer from non-safety-related defects.

A limited number of units among a dozen SKUs made during November 2011 through January 2012 could exhibit one or two defects, the company said. Consumers could find that after they turn their AVR on, it might turn itself off. The other issue is static noise emitted from speakers when an AVR is playing at low levels.

The affected Onkyo products include the TX-8255, TX-8050, HT-RC360, TX-SR309, TX-NR609, TX-NR709, TX-NR809, TX-NR1009 and TX-NR5009 AVRs. The affected receiver/speaker packages are the HT-S3400 package using the HT-R390 AVR, HT-S7409 package using the TX-NR609 AVR, and the HT-S8409 package using the TX-NR609 AVR.

Onkyo is asking consumers to go to a web page to enter their product’s serial number to verify that the product will require service. Consumers could also call customer support at (800) 229-1687 and select option 3 to determine is the product is part of the limited production lot in need of repair.
