Pakedge Device & Software has introduced its SW5-GW 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch, designed to meet the needs of custom-installation home theater, multi-room audio/video, home networking, security, and other applications.

The new SW5-GWis equipped with five auto-speed-sensing 10/100/1000 Mbps ports. The switch is plug-and-play without any software to configure, and is fully compliant with all network protocols. The compact (4.75″ W x 3″ D x 1″ H) SW5-GW comes with a wall-mounting bracket that makes it easy to install anywhere – simply slide the unit into the bracket or use it freestanding.

Victor Pak, President and CEO of Pakedge, noted, “Like all Pakedge products, the SW5-GW is optimized for home theater, multiroom audio/video, home networking, smart home and security applications. It’s designed for unshakable reliability even under demanding conditions of continuous use, along with flexible operation and ease of installation.”

The SW5-GW offers a host of integration-friendly features. The switch will automatically negotiate network speed and duplex mode with its connected devices. It features a compact metal housing for maximum durability and easy placement on a flat surface, in a structured media panel or mounted on a wall. Because the SW5-GW has no fan, it makes no noise, enabling it to be used in an A/V cabinet.

The SW5-GW is stackable for use with additional Pakedge switches in larger, more complex installations. The SW5-GW can be used to segment large networks into smaller connected subnets for improved performance, or expanding the number of available ports in an A/V cabinet where only one Cat5e cable is located.

The SW5-GW delivers a dedicated 10/100/1000 Mbps connection to every attached client, avoiding the possibility of bandwidth congestion. It supports auto MDI / MDI-X functionality, as well as 12k jumbo frames, resulting in better network performance because the switch can send more data simultaneously. For larger installations, each port can be used to connect to another switch or hub, with no crossover RJ-45 cable required.

The Pakedge SW5-GW 5-Port Ethernet Switch comes with a DC power adapter, wall-mount bracket and kit, and a user’s manual. It will be available June 25, 2010.
