PMA Reports Early Findings of Reseller Survey

The display research firm highlights its findings thus far for the future of LCD and plasmas televisions as well as the rise of the media center PC.

Menlo Park, CA–Pacific Media Associates, expert researchers on large-screen displays, is in the process of gathering data for its annual North American Reseller Survey. Although it is still early in the process, the firm reports some interesting trends are already developing.

For example, initial results indicate that the percentage of meeting and conference rooms with large LCD or plasma panel displays is expected to double from 2005 to 2007, though front projectors will continue to dominate installations for these applications, owning more than a two-thirds share.

“The hospitality market continues to be the focus of intense interest within the industry,” according to Dr. William Coggshall, founder and president of Pacific Media. “Although in-room viewing for hotel guests is clearly the largest portion of the hospitality market, we were very surprised by initial survey results indicating strong sales for use in meeting room and conference facilities.”

On the consumer side, early indications show that the number of HDTVs and front projectors connected to Media Center PCs could triple from 2005 to 2007. This has big implications for both the kind of products that will be demanded and the kind of expertise that will be needed by installers in the very near future.

The survey gathers information from dealers on a wide range of subjects covering both the professional and consumer markets. Early results indicate that buyers are willing to spend more for a 42-inch LCD HDTV than for a 42-inch plasma HDTV.

The 2006 North American Reseller Survey data collection continues through the fall; the final reports will be distributed free to all participants in the fourth quarter.
