Procella Audio says it will construct a THX-specification baffle wall for the demonstration of its P815 biamplified screen speaker and P18 dual 18-inch active subwoofer, at ISE next week.
A baffle wall, required for THX cinemas and screening rooms, is a large acoustic baffle used to mount the front speakers, that provides a smooth uninterrupted surface from which the sound radiates. It produces a large sound image and accurate tracking of sound elements with the onscreen image.
The Procella baffle wall will be open at the sides and back so that visitors will be able to see exactly how the wall is constructed. In addition, Procella will show prototypes of two new versions of the highly popular P10 subwoofer. All of these products will be showcased in Booth 4Q70 in Hall 5, February 1-3.
“Our booth at ISE will give AV professionals a unique behind-the-curtains look into the workings of a high-end home cinema room installation that shows the quality and scale of the work our systems integration customers are doing worldwide,” said Procella founding partner Gerben Van Duyl. “All three company directors, who you may know from their work with leading audio companies DTS and the original M&K, will be present to share their vast experience with AV professionals. This is an opportunity not to be missed!”
Baffle wall installation of the main speakers and subwoofers is the recommended practice followed by commercial cinemas and professional screening rooms, and it provides the best combination of imaging, speaker efficiency, and impactful cinema sound. Baffle wall installation eliminates frequency response dips caused by reflections off the wall behind the speakers, significantly increases the maximum output capability of the speakers and subwoofers, and creates an acoustic image the size of the screen, not the speakers. It also significantly improves tracking of sonic images and screen images, avoiding the jumps of sound from channel to channel often heard in home theater systems. Further, the baffle wall eliminates diffraction from speaker cabinet edges, and reduces or eliminates sound reflected back through the screen and from the back wall behind the screen.
All of the Procella speakers in the ISE demo system, which include the Procella P815, P8 and P18, are THX Approved for integration into professional rooms, including THX Certified Screening Rooms and THX pm3 Studios (professional Multichannel Mixing and Monitoring).
