Report Assesses Performance, Reliability of Networking Standards

A new report published today by Rethink Research, and sponsored by MoCA, assesses the performance and reliability of the various home networking standards under real-world conditions and compares these figures with their respective advertised data rates.

The report, titled “Performance and Reliability: Home Network Technology Standard Comparison,” concludes that there is considerable variation between some of the published and validated speeds. It also sets out a benchmark that can be used by operators to compare validated in-home data speeds.

“Our report highlights the need for operators [cable MSOs, satellite providers, telcos/IPTV providers] to look at actual performance and reliability before designing their networks,” said Peter White, Rethink Research founder and the report’s author. “As this report demonstrates, the validated performance data of home networking standards can vary markedly from advertised rates.”
