Through its new partnership with Digital Cinema Initiatives, Runco is bringing digital cinema content and performance from the local multiplex into the home.

Digital Cinema Initiatives LLC is a joint venture between Disney, Fox, Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal, and Warner Brothers Studios, created to establish a standard of technical specifications, performance, and quality control for first-run commercial digital cinemas.

Genuine DCI systems, with their related encryption and visual performance, are crafted by only a handful of manufacturers and are designed for those with access to digitally distributed first-run Hollywood films.

Runco’s Digital Cinema Concierge service enables certified dealers to provide their clients with complete projection and media server systems, custom-engineered and built to specifications to meet the exact needs of each individual client and certified to meet the stringent standards of DCI.

According to Runco, its sales engineers will personally review plans for every new DCI installation and develop a complete solution tailor-made for each project, complete with a DCI-compatible projector ideally suited for the job, lens options, and a proprietary Runco Digital Cinema Media Server (DCMS). The Runco DCMS is compliant with Digital Cinema Initiative specifications enabling the playback of locked content, including Texas Instruments (TI) CineLink 2 encryption, MXF, and JPEG2000 Interop specifications. In compliance with studio standards, it offers 2048-bit RSA encryptions and forensic watermarking support with Civolution NexGuard.

The Runco DCMS will support both DCinema and ECinema content formats in 2k and 1080p resolutions. It’s web-based user interface shows status and can allow for transport control, scheduling, content ingest, key management, media management, as well as setup and maintenance. Matching the needs of this high-end client who wants to watch both 2D and 3D content, the Runco DCMS also enables a myriad of 3D playback, including optional Dolby 3D upgrade. Runco’s Digital Cinema Concierge is a total video solution custom configured to the needs of the most discriminating client for their private screening room.

Runco says that each system will be set-up at the factory and tested in a replicate environment to the eventual home to ensure performance and then shipped to the site where Runco will also provide on-site installation and calibration services as well two years’ worth of on-site service and repair as part of its PremierCare program. Throughout the sale, installation, and maintenance of the theater, Runco has DCI-trained in-house experts ready to assist dealers with any digital cinema issues that may arise.

“Our goal is to provide our dealers with all of the tools and support they need to deliver the ultimate digital cinema experience for the select clients who have very large private cinemas,” said Jennifer Davis, vice president of marketing for Runco
