Newmarket, NH–Larry Daywitt, who helped guide Russound’s branding for more than three years, passed away on September 24.
Daywitt joined Russound in 2003 as marketing director, moving to the position of creative counsel in 2005. He is widely credited with redefining Russound’s brand and guiding the company to the position as the No. 1 brand in multiroom audio/video. All levels of marketing communications, advertising, public relations and printed materials as well the company’s online presence, were overseen by Daywitt and his team of professionals.
“The day Larry agreed to join us marks a milestone in our corporate development and remains one of the happiest days of my professional career,” offered Jeff Kussard, Russound vice president of strategic development. “Larry developed a clear vision for our brand. He executed that vision with surety while devotedly guiding us to new levels. Larry mentored and tutored Russound through his gentle nature and boyish charm. While we will feel the sting of Larry’s absence for some time, his supportive guidance and crystalline vision will inspire us as we carry his work forward. We will miss him dearly.”
Throughout his career, Daywitt, a trained architect, avid linguist and devotee of typography, was committed to using the power of words and design to communicate within his clients’ markets. Mid-career, Larry founded Commstrat, a company offering global communications strategies and solutions, which he ran for 10 years. He also spent 10 years as a partner with the Boston Marketing Group, a strategic planning and communications consulting firm. Daywitt leveraged his design background to develop brand structure and define corporate identity. During many speaking engagements in which he discussed the role design should play in brand management, Daywitt cited Dieter Rams, the 20th century modern master of industrial design, as a major influence and mentor.
A private memorial was held on October 15, in Essex, Massachusetts. The Daywitt family has established an Art and Music Scholarship with the Psi Iota Xi philanthropic sorority and a memorial fund with the American Diabetes Association.
