As a member of these organizations, both based in Washington, D.C., Somfy will be positioned to promote greater environmental sustainability by applying the principles of bioclimatic design to the commercial building market.
The U.S. Green Building Council, a non-profit organization committed to establishing a sustainable nation through energy-efficient and energy-saving green buildings, utilizes a LEED green building certification system that rates the design, construction and operation of green buildings. Under this system, builders can obtain up to 19 LEED points by using Somfy products to reduce light pollution, improve indoor environmental quality and enhance innovation in design, energy and atmosphere.
In addition to being a member of the USGBC, Somfy has also become an allied partner of the American Institute of Architects. As an AIA member, Somfy will contribute towards their continuing education initiatives. Utilizing an AIA accredited education program, Somfy will inform architectural groups of the importance of daylight control, light balancing, dynamic insulation, and natural ventilation in the design of buildings.
“We are honored to be a corporate member of these two prestigious and important organizations,” said Somfy North America Commercial Business Leader, Tom Murphy. “At Somfy all of our products are designed with energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in mind. Our joining forces with the U.S Green Building Council and the American Institute of Architects is a perfect fit. I am excited for our relationship with these organizations to grow and to create successful outcomes that will benefit builders, homeowners, tenants and the environment.”
As a corporate member of both the USGBC and AIA, Somfy Systems will serve as a manufacturer of green building solutions while strengthening its relationship with the organizations and individuals who are leading the way in energy efficiency and a healthy building environment. Additionally, Somfy will continue its active role as a Greenbuild exhibitor at the 10th Annual Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in San Francisco, CA later this year.
