Toshiba Surveillance & IP Video Products has launched the groundbreaking IK-WR31A (vandal) and IK-WD31A (indoor) three-megapixel IP dome cameras.
“As Toshiba continues to evolve its IP product line, we are helping security professionals and our Toshiba ProfitMAX dealers solve new challenges by providing them with cameras delivering vastly improved image quality and more efficient network bandwidth, along with new features that present opportunities to monitor unique security applications,” said Greg Hartzell, senior manager, Toshiba Surveillance & IP Video Products.

Available immediately, both the Toshiba IK-WR31A and IK-WD31A cameras feature Smart Codec H.264 video compression, adaptive IR LEDs that automatically adjust light intensity, and user-selectable Hallway View for rotating standard images 90° to portrait orientation for better monitoring of long retail or warehouse aisles, school hallways, and outdoor walkways. Both also offer ONVIF complaint engineering for maximum compatibility, PoE (802.3af) convenience, edge-ready recording with a built-in MicroSD card slot, and true Wide Dynamic Range and True Day-Night imaging.

While the IK-WD31A is strictly for indoor deployment, such as retail and casinos, the hardened IK-WR31A is built for more challenging indoor and outdoor use. Its IK10 Vandal Resistant rating and IP66 dust- and water-proof rated housing qualifies the IK-WR31A as a mainstay in schools, prisons, parking lots and other outdoor perimeter security.

By incorporating Smart Codec into its new cameras, Toshiba is addressing a vital need in the market for feature-rich, high-resolution IP domes that take up less space on overcrowded networks. Smart Codec effectively reduces the video packet size while maintaining good video quality. It allocates more bandwidth to moving objects or areas of interest but less on other parts of the video that do not require high quality, resulting in lower bandwidth and storage requirements.
