Update: APC Layoffs Won’t Affect AV Business

Kingston, RI — American Power Conversion’s reported lay off of as many as 100 workers in North America, will not evidently affect the company’s custom installation channel employees.

APC’s media relations manager, Elizabeth deCastro, confirmed the layoffs to the Providence Journal, late last week but did not provide details on which types of jobs were being affected. However, an e-mail blast sent this week to APC’s AV dealer network stated that that division was untouched.

The e-mail, which was shared with Residential Systems magazine by dealer Steve Forgy of Navigant Systems in Golden, Colorado, quoted Todd McGuire, APC’s AV Division national account manager, as saying, “I wanted to let you all know that I have not gone anywhere, and no one on the APC AV team was affected by the layoffs. When you look at the numbers it was less than a four-percent layoff, so it should really not raise any eyebrows in the channel.”

APC is owned by Schneider Electric SA in France. It employs about 2,600 employees in North America with corporate headquarters in West Kingston.
