URC says that its new Network Series controllers can provide a multi-room iTunes experience that seamlessly integrates with control of home theater equipment, lights, and climate.

“Yes, we know, ‘There’s an app for that,’” said Eric Johnson, URC’s vice president of tehcnology. “We live in that world, too. But there’s no ‘app’ that does everything our Network Series controllers can do. We can dim the lights, turn off the TV, peek in the nursery via the IP camera, and much more, with just a couple button presses and without delay. And now, we can get you to your iTunes playlist faster.”

URC’s MX-6000 Color Touch Screen, MX-5000 Wand Touch Screen Remote, and KP-4000 In-Wall Touch Screen Keypad can now provide “rich control” of iTunes libraries on any PC, Mac, or Apple TV unit in the home, from the comfort of the living room couch or in a room far away from the iTunes host, the company says.

URC’s suite of 16 applications offer custom installers the ability to specify and install a fully automated, scalable wireless music system with amplifiers in several rooms, each linked by an Apple AirPort Express to any Apple TV, Mac, or PC with an iTunes library.

In each room, a URC Network Series controller provides a consistent interface that displays iTunes cover art, browses and selects any and all content, and automates operation, according to the company. Four of the applications enhance the experience of TV and movie watching via Apple TV or a Mac Mini connected to a home theater. Without switching to IR control, users can switch from browsing on the TV to personal browsing on the Network Series controller.

Apple’s AirPort Express has always offered iTunes users a way to wirelessly connect an Apple TV, PC, or Mac running iTunes to any stereo system. However, the user’s only option for control has been an iPhone.

URC Network Series controllers are designed to offer a more comprehensive, higher-end alternative with some distinct advantages. For example, URC Network Series controllers don’t need to log onto a wireless network to control volume; they can instantly communicate with an AV receiver or powered speakers via standard RF. In addition, there’s no longer a need to worry about keeping the iPhone charged or out of battery-saving mode to instantly control and enjoy iTunes entertainment throughout the house.
