Wisdom Audio has finalized the pricing on a new series of planar-magnetic in-wall speakers designed to expand its customer base.
Two of Wisdom Audio’s planned four Insight in-wall speakers, the $1,750-each P41 (left) and $5,000-each L8i.
Four in-wall speakers in the Insight series will retail for $1,250 to $5,000 each and feature passive crossovers so they can be used with AV receivers. The prices compare to the company’s current in-wall planar-magnetic speakers, which are active speakers starting at $3,000 each, excluding a needed $6,500 7.3-channel electronic crossover with parametric EQ and Audyssey room-correction technology. A separate amplifier to biamplify the speakers is also needed.
Until Insight ships in May to June, the lowest price for a home-theater speaker system using Wisdom’s planar-magnetic in-wall speakers is $30,000 for a 7.1 system, the company said.
The Insight lineup starts with the $1,250-each P2i, which features a planar-magnetic thin-film driver and two racetrack-shaped moving-coil woofers in a 19- by 4.6-inch baffle, delivering a frequency response of 80Hz-20kHz, 87dB sensitivity at 2.83 volts, 3-ohm nominal impedance and maximum SPL of 100dB at 2 meters.
