Yamaha Appoints New President

Tom Sumner was most recently vice president and general manager of Yamaha Corporation of Americas Pro Audio and Combo Division.

Buena Park, CA–Yamaha Electronics Corporation, USA, has appointed Tom Sumner as president. Additionally, Mr. Sumner has been named corporate vice president of Yamaha Corporation of America (YCA), the parent company of YEC.

Sumner replaces Hogan Osawa, who was appointed president of Yamaha Corporation of America, the subsidiary of Yamaha Corporation, Japan which offers a full line of musical instruments and audio/visual products to the U.S. market.

My time in the U.S. as president of Yamaha Electronics Corporation has been both challenging and rewarding, said Osawa. Our industry has undergone significant changes, and I am grateful to my outstanding management team for their support and dedication. I am proud of our performance during this past fiscal year, and I know Mr. Sumner will bring us continued success in the future.

Sumner is a 19-year Yamaha veteran. Most recently, he served as vice president and general manager of YCAs Pro Audio and Combo (PAC) Division. Sumner joined Yamaha in 1988 as national account manager for the Consumer Products Division (CPD) and was promoted to national sales manager for Multimedia Products in 1995. He was promoted to general manager of the division in 2000. Sumner was later promoted to general manager of Yamahas PAC Division in 2002 and to vice president/general manager in 2004.

Prior to joining Yamaha, Mr. Sumner was a consumer electronics buyer for Macys California. He holds an MBA degree from Pepperdine University, (2003), and an undergraduate degree from California State University Sacramento, (1983).
